Peguis was part of the City of Transcona when it became part of the City of Winnipeg which came into legal existence on January 1, 1972.

Peguis is a lightly neighbourhood in northwestern Transcona. It is named for Chief Peguis (ca.1774-1864), Saulteaux Chief who was instrumental in treaty signings in southeastern Manitoba with Lord Selkirk and supported the early settlement of the region by Europeans.
