History of Heritage Park

Heritage Resources

Heritage Park was part of the St. James when it became part of the City of Winnipeg which came into legal existence on January 1, 1972.

The area known today as the neighbourhood of Heritage Park was part of the large residential expansion in west Winnipeg in the 1960s and 1970s.

It was originally the site of the Kirkfield Park Race Track, built in 1905 and used for both horses and automobiles. It continued to operate until at least World War I and by the 1930s was abandoned and the area had reverted by to agricultural uses. [1] It wasn't until the 1960s that the area saw major development.
