Weston was part of the City of Winnipeg when it amalgamated with surrounding municipalities to from the City of Winnipeg which came into legal existence on January 1, 1972.

Weston is named after the massive Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR)'s nearby Weston Shops, was nicknamed "CPR Town" because of the large number of railway workers living in the neighbourhood. Beyond the extensive residential development, it acquired the amenities of other Winnipeg neighbourhoods including commercial property, schools, churches and a fire hall. Most of this development was in place by the 1920s.
