History of Springfield North

Springfield North was part of the Rural Municipality of North Kildonan (created in 1925) when it became part of the City of Winnipeg which came into legal existence on January 1, 1972.

Although some of the buildings in this mainly residential neighbourhood date to the early 1960s, it was the late 1970s and 1980s that saw most of the construction activity, especially in the Sun Valley development. Almost all the residential building stock is in the form of single family detached homes. Some of the property in the north part of the neighbourhood is undeveloped.
