History of Royalwood

Heritage Resources

Royalwood was part of the City of St. Boniface when it became part of the City of Winnipeg which came into legal existence on January 1, 1972.

The residential component of this neighbourhood is fairly recent, built within the last 15 years in the north part of the district and within the last 10 years in the area around Shorehill Drive. There are some pre-World War II structures in the southern portion of the neighbourhood.

Also in the neighbourhood is Bois-des-Esprits, the largest remaining riverbank forest left within the City of Winnipeg boundaries. Situated on the east side of the SeineRiver, the nearly 50-hectare park contains five different ecosystems - riverbottom, wetland, oak forest, aspen forest, and grassland and several acres of trails.
