History of Rockwood

Rockwood was part of the old City of Winnipeg that amalgamated with surrounding municipalities to form the City of Winnipeg which came into legal existence on January 1, 1972.

Rockwood is a mostly residential neighbourhood located in the Grant/Corydon area. Building stock is comprised of single-family detached homes. In the northeast corner, along Jessie and Warsaw avenues, some of the housing dates to the pre-World War I period, with another larger number of homes along the eastern boundary of the neighbourhood dating to the late 1920s and early 1940s. The vast majority of housing was built in the 1950s and early 1960s, occupying most of the west portion of Rockwood. Schools, parks and some commercial property is also present.
