History of Earl Grey

Heritage Buildings

Earl Grey was part of the City of Winnipeg when it amalgamated with the surrounding municipalities to form the City of Winnipeg which came into legal existence on January 1, 1972.

Earl Grey is a large, mostly residential neighbourhood that developed after 1900 (although there are a few pre-1900 buildings) as the area known as Fort Rouge, which had been developed beginning in the 1880s, expanded. All developmental eras saw construction in Earl Grey, many of the single family homes date to the pre-World War I period but infill construction has continued to today. Pembina Highway and Corydon Avenue have developed with commercial and multi-tenant residential properties.
