History of Central Park

Heritage Buildings
Heritage Resources

Central Park was part of the City of Winnipeg when it amalgamated with the surrounding municipalities to form the City of Winnipeg which came into legal existence on January 1, 1972.

This is an extremely diverse neighbourhood in terms of both its occupants and its building stock. Located in Winnipeg's downtown, it includes Central Park, established in 1893 by the new City Public Parks Board as one of four original green spaces (FortRouge, St. John's, Victoria and Central). [1] Originally developed as a residential district, newer construction, including high-rise apartments and office buildings, has changed the make-up of the area.
