The Canadian Pacific Railway's WinnipegBeach line cuts diagonally across the neighbourhood. The area's street names have a military theme, with Artillery and Battery streets and Sargent Tommy Prince Street , honouring the Manitoba-born Prince (1915-1977), one of Canada's most decorated First Nations soldier who served in World War II and the Korean War.

The West Broadway neighbourhood is one of the oldest in today's City of Winnipeg, featuring over 20 structures dating to the 19th century, the oldest being a two-storey home built in 1884. These early homes dotted the area south of Portage Avenue as it evolved into an important east-west thoroughfare.

The neighbourhood is bounded by Portage Avenue on the north, Cornish Avenue on the south, Maryland Street on the west and the Assiniboine River and Colony Street on the east. It includes commercial property along Portage Avenue and both sides of Broadway, residential property on the north-south streets, schools, churches and other facilities.

The area known today as the neighbourhood of Booth is located north of Portage Avenue, south of Murray Industrial Park and between Moray Street on the east and Sturgeon Road on the west. It features several blocks of residential streets filled with modest single-family homes, commercial property along Portage Avenue and Ness Avenue and in its southwest corner, Sturgeon Creek and Grant's Mill. Sturgeon Heights Collegiate and Living Prairie Museum are found in the northern part of the neighbourhood.
