The neighbourhood of Victoria West was part of the City of Transcona when it became part of the City of Winnipeg which came into legal existence on January 1, 1972.

This neighbourhood developed both as Transcona's commercial district, along Regent Avenue , and residential to the north, which is roughly divided into an older section to the east and a newer, bungalow subdivision on the west, developed in the 1950s.[1] Churches, schools and other institutions have also located in this neighbourhood which includes several parks.
