History of Southland Park

Home

Southland Park was part of the City of St. Vital when it combined with surrounding municipalities to become the City of Winnipeg which came into legal existence on January 1, 1972.

The lake community of Southland Park dates to the late 1980s when the land east of the Royal Canadian Mint was subdivided into several block encircling a man-made lake and sold for single family homes. Construction followed and the neighbourhood has developed with construction continuing into the 2000s. This community is located in the northwest corner of the neighbourhood; much of the remaining land is vacant. A large Manitoba Hydro facility is found in the southwest corner (379 Lagimodière Boulevard) and Glenlawn Memorial Gardens is found nearby at 455 Lagimodière Boulevard.
