Southboine was part of the Rural Municipality of Charleswood when it became part of the when it became part of the City of Winnipeg which came into legal existence on January 1, 1972.

The neighbourhood includes a nursing home at 5501 Roblin Boulevard (Charleswood Care Centre), the Westboine Park Housing Co-op, a 7.1-hectare townhouse and apartment development opened in 1975 [1] and a Royal Canadian Legion, Charleswood Branch No. 100, 6003 Roblin Boulevard. The neighbourhood's commercial property is located along Roblin Boulevard and the majority of the building stock is single-family dwellings dating from the 1970s.
