Maple Grove Park was part of the City of St. Vital when it combined with surrounding municipalities to become the City of Winnipeg which came into legal existence on January 1, 1972.

This neighbourhood is comprised entirely of the City of Winnipeg's Maple Grove Park, a large greenspace that includes a clubhouse, an off-leash area for dogs (north end), disc sport fields (west), rugby fields (southwest), football fields (home of the St. Vital Mustangs, south) and a river boat launch (east).
