History of Dufferin Industrial

Heritage Resources

Dufferin Industrial was part of the City of Winnipeg when it amalgamated with surrounding municipalities to form the City of Winnipeg which came into legal existence on January 1, 1972.

Dufferin Industrial is one of the City's older industrial neighbourhoods, established during the 1890s and early 1900s as the Canadian Pacific Railway's Weston Yards and shops evolved. Heavy industries such as bridge and iron works, manufacturers and warehouses all located along the tracks to take advantage of the modern transportation and freighting. Commercial businesses were also part of the neighbourhood, as is some modest housing along Dufferin Avenue.
